is absolutely dead-on. The worst thing a business can do is focus on the costs of providing good customer service. Yes, managing costs is critical. But you’ve got to ensure you’re fully considering the revenue that strong service provides.

An example is how L.L. Bean handles customer service. From my point of view, it’s the gold standard by which all other catalog companies should be measured.

Hi Roy,
I don’t recommend selling anything that can be counterfeit…This includeds DVD’s, designer clothing, sneakers, cell phones, video game systems, or Ipods. Leave those to the brick and mortar businesses.

I recommend selling everyday items. Things people use everyday. Necessity outsells luxury 100-1.

That’s the website I am presently using although I plan to cancel with them..
I am writing about a problem I encountered with a drop shipper. I got canceled from Amazon because they were boot legging blu ray dvd’s. I should have investigated them before I started using them.
I am looking for another place like Amazon because I was making money there. If I could find a good supplier of Disney dvd’s,blu ray etc. from good ole USA.
Can you give me some advice where to find a good product and which marketplace do you recommend?

I have listed some new DVD’s at rock bottom prices in order to build up a relable feedback score. By charging $3-00 for shipping I just break even. I agree with you and will try listing some used items and see how they sell.

This is working great for me. I just bought a bread maker at a Yard Sale for $17 and sold it on an auction site for $50. The seller at the Yard Sale had used it once.

Well since I’m here reading a lot of the archives I will throw my hat into the ring too. Like a lot of people I have been on eBay a few years mostly as a buyer with a few sales here and there as a supplement.

It would be great to get to transition into it fully…

The general conception is that eBay powersellers are run by huge companies with warehouses brimming with merchandise, loading docks, hundreds of employees and so on. A little research leads me to think most dropshippers are quite shady (actually brokers who are out to get money from unsuspecting people with signup and recurring fees).

Anyway, your blog gives the eBay rookie a lot of great info and direction and helps steer folks away from some of the pitfalls that can really trip you up. Thanks!

I will agree about the completed listings in advanced search because you can also set a price range.

Last time I checked you could use eBay’s Market Research tool for $2.95 (or around that) for two days to look at recent trends.
